Stop Your Air Conditioner Leaking Water

Review

The three most tasteless reasons for water leakage from heat pumps are dirty filters or heat exchanging coils, blocked drains, and a shortage of refrigerant. They are pretty straightforward to diagnose and repair.

Remember: Turn off the power source to your air conditioner before trying any of the following!

When the filters, or heat exchanging coil, are dirty or blocked, this causes a restriction in air flow. This in turn can then cause the climatic characteristic of the coil to drop. If the coil climatic characteristic drops below zero, moisture in the air that is condensating on the coil can freeze and form exiguous ice flakes which are then blown out of your air conditioner, causing water leakage.

Check the filters, and if they look dirty, give them a good clean with the hosepipe or shower head. Remove all the dirt and give them a spray with a kitchen or bathroom clean spray to kill any bacteria or mould on them.

Check the aluminum coil behind the filters. If it is covered in dry lint, try vacuuming the coil carefully with the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. If it is particularly dirty, you will need to use a garden spray bottle and a strong grease removing kitchen cleaner. Spray it on the coil, allow to work for around 5 minutes then rinse the coil off with the spray bottle. This should Remove the dirt and enhance the air flow. Please be right not to spray water near to the electrical panel on the air conditioner.

Always read the manufacturers' manuals on how to clean your heat pump or air conditioner correctly!

2. Blocked Drains

On a wall mounted ductless air conditioner, a blocked drain can be pretty definite and easy to diagnose. Water will ordinarily drip down the wall from the back of the unit and may also leak through the air outlet at the front if the drain is blocked.

Stand on a small ladder and look down from the top of the air conditioner. Towards the lowest of the heat exchanger is a exiguous plastic tray which is designed to catch the condensate produced by the cooling mode of the air conditioner. Check that this tray is not full of water or overflowing.

If your outdoor unit is directly behind the wall the indoor unit is mounted on, your drain pipe will likely succeed the pipework through the wall and drip into the garden. If this is the case, find the end of the drain pipe outside, wipe the end clean with a cloth then blow as hard as you can into it. This should clear any blockages.

If you cannot clear the blockage yourself, or if it is buried inside the wall, you will need to phone a professional Hvac aid enterprise and book a aid call.

3. Your Air Conditioner Has A Leak and Has Lost Refrigerant

If your air filters and heat exchanger are clean and you have lots of air flow, your air conditioner should deliver fullness of cool air. If it is struggling to cool the room for a few hours and then starts leaking water from the air vent it may be short on refrigerant.

Set your heat pump to the lowest setting potential and leave it to run for a exiguous while. Then check the heat exchanging coil underneath the filters. If it is covered in ice, your air conditioner has a leak and requires a professional to aid it. If your air conditioner is leaking refrigerant, the leak will need to be found and fixed before it can have additional refrigerant added to it.

If in doubt, or these tips don't work, experience your local air conditioning enterprise for a service.

Air Conditioners - How to Cut Running Costs in Half

Review

In today's world, most people have invested in one form of an air conditioner or another. We have either window air conditioners in our homes or central air conditioners. They keep us cool in the extreme summer heat without fail; however, have you ever set back and looked at the costs of running an air conditioner? When compared to the common household fan the amount of electricity required to run an air conditioner is phenomenal.

When using an air conditioner there are many separate factors that can directly work on the cost of running it. These factors include the geographical location of your home, where you live and the amount of work the air conditioner has to do greatly work on the cost. If you live in an area that has mild summers and extremely cold winters, obviously your air conditioner will not have to work as hard. However, if you live in an area, that has warm winters and boiling summers the air conditioner will have to work double time to sound comfort.

The contrast in weather conditions from year to year will work on the costs as well. This is basically geared towards the contrast in costs per year. One summer might be cooler than the next, which will lead to a greater bill.

The efficiency rating of your air conditioner plays an foremost role in the amount of electricity used. Most all appliances in today's world are rated, when you buy an air conditioner it will have a tag telling you the amount of electricity that appliance uses. Look for air conditioners that use minimal electricity, which will save you money each year. If you have a model that is 10 years or older, it is undoubtedly time to think a new one.

Another foremost factor is the size of the air conditioner versus the house-cooling load. All air conditioners come in separate sizes, and each will state the amount of space it is designed to cool. For example, an apartment could do with just one or two window air conditioners, while a three-bedroom house could not. Intimately think the amount of space you need to cool when inspecting an air conditioner. While larger air conditioners will cost more money, it will typically save you money in the long run on usage.

The setting on your thermostat greatly effects the cost. A higher setting will supervene in the air conditioner running less, while lowering the setting will cause it to run more often. One galvanic firm suggests keeping the thermostat above 78 degrees. This can save you 10 to 20% on cooling costs.

Finally, the local cost of electricity influences the general cost of running your air conditioner. This is something you have no control over, however, you can control your own cost by saving energy.

Here is a general look at the contrast of running an air conditioner vs. Running a Ceiling or oscillating fan, at medium speed.

Running a central air conditioner that is three ton (and of mean efficiency) for 8 hours per day for 15 days per month, with the mean rate per kWh (kilowatt per hour) being 0.17, the mean cost per month for the air conditioner alone will be .92. Breathtaking isn't it? This does not even include washer, dryer, lights, refrigerator, or stove, only the air conditioner.

On the other hand, running a ceiling fan or oscillating fan at medium speed, for 8 hours per day, for a full 30 days, at an mean rate per kWh of 0.035 is only .43. With this comparison you could run 68 ½ fans for a full month before you would reach the cost of the central air conditioning unit.

There are many other things you can do to lower you galvanic bill. Things such as, inspect, clean, or replace your air conditioner filters monthly. When you are not in your home, raise the climatic characteristic on your thermostat, keeping in mind pets when you do. Lower the climatic characteristic of your water heater to 120 degrees, wash only full loads in your dishwasher or clothes washer, and use the energy saving cycle on the dryer.

Other steps you can take include, replacing incandescent bulbs with fluorescent lamps, this could save up to 75% on lighting costs. You should also caulk all windows, doors, and pipes to prevent air leaks in or out, use weather stripping colse to windows, doors and pipes as well. Have your ducts tested for air leaks; leaking ducts can sacrifice the efficiency of your air conditioner by up to 20%.
